Marie Rouillon is a London-based French material designer who graduated in a Masters in Design for Textile Futures at Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design in June 2011. Her work has a deeply rooted interest in the role that materials play in everyday interactions between people and objects. She is currently a Trends & Colour Consultant and Stylist at Colour Hive / MIX Magazine.

Rouillon’s final masters project ‘Daily Haptics’ highlights the idea that in the world in which we live, where information is primarily digital or visual, we lack physical contact with our surroundings and as a result our sense of touch decays. Her approach to design aims at reconnecting people with tactility, by highlighting the importance of physical engagement and by making the user aware of the multiple senses of touch through material exploration in everyday objects

Rouillon’s process when designing is always very hands-on: the materials often bear heavy influence on the way in which objects are designed. She believes that “material designers have a key role to play in the development of our future environment” and her aim is to bring sensory experiences back into our daily lives.

Rouillon is a multidisciplinary designer, currently working as a Trends & Colour Consultant and Stylist at Colour Hive / MIX Magazine as well as a freelance material designer. Her body of work covers set design, jewellery, trends reports, teaching, illustration and painting.

She has worked on various projects for the following companies: WGSN, PATTERNITY, Nissan, Goop, Global Color Research, POSTextiles, Chris Lefteri Design, Textile Environment Design, CPHLondon, Matches Fashion, We Were Evergreen, Marithé and François Girbaud and more.
